Welcome! I'm a 48 (and 1/2) year old, wife, mother (8 1/2 year old son), daughter, sister, friend and volunteer. So, 48.5 really means I'm into my 49th year on this amazing planet, and on July 19, 2010, I'll be in my 50th year. The mid-century mark. L. The big 5-0. However you want to say it, to most of the English speaking world, it means "old". I want to get there with grace, passion, beauty, love and laughter. I want to get there the old-fashioned way: by taking care of myself, eating right, creating a balanced life, laughing and living life to it's fullest. I'll be documenting my journey and hope you will watch and learn along the way. I'll also provide some of my tips for looking young and feeling your best as we head to and beyond our mid-century mark. Here's to being "Beautifully 50".

Dead Give-aways

It's Saturday morning and I'm headed off for a manicure. Yes, I should have had it before that New Year's Eve party, but oh well!  I started thinking of some of the things that myself and lots of my friends did in the past that would only scream our ages now. One of them is artificial nails. I had them for 25 years of my life, from the time I was 20 - 45 years old! That sounds unbelieveable to me now. Sure, there were times that I took a break...when my son was born, hmmm, that might be the only break.

I've had my short, natural nails for four years now, and I love them.  Sure, they go through times when they look fabulous and times when I try to hide them. It took some time (probably 6 months) to get them strong after I took off my "pink and whites", but I swear by the Nailtiques line.  They have a protein strengthener  (Formula 2) that is fabulous. It's worth the wait. Now my nails look great (and younger!) in a soft pink shade or even the deepest of plums. I love deep colors in the winter and I've found that if you just put a coat of clear on every other day, your color can last up to 10 days.

Just check out the fashion magazines - you won't find artificial nails on any of the younger models. Same goes for celebs. Or, next time you are in a nail salon check out who is getting the power filing and most likely they are older than you!
