Welcome! I'm a 48 (and 1/2) year old, wife, mother (8 1/2 year old son), daughter, sister, friend and volunteer. So, 48.5 really means I'm into my 49th year on this amazing planet, and on July 19, 2010, I'll be in my 50th year. The mid-century mark. L. The big 5-0. However you want to say it, to most of the English speaking world, it means "old". I want to get there with grace, passion, beauty, love and laughter. I want to get there the old-fashioned way: by taking care of myself, eating right, creating a balanced life, laughing and living life to it's fullest. I'll be documenting my journey and hope you will watch and learn along the way. I'll also provide some of my tips for looking young and feeling your best as we head to and beyond our mid-century mark. Here's to being "Beautifully 50".

The Bangle Brigade

Everytime I go shopping lately, I find myself asking my shopping gals "Is this too young for me?"  Of course, the only answer I'll ever get is "oh no, absolutely not!" But, I know better. There are some trends that a mid-life shopper cannot or should not try to pull off, no matter how great she looks. In my opinion, this includes (but not limited to) super short skirts and dresses, anything to purposely show your undergarments, too-tight anything, leggings without a top that covers your bottom, over-accessorizing, and holey jeans.

However, I do believe that as you age you can still be stylish and trend worthy. One of my favorite trends that started in 2009 and explodes for Spring 2010 is the cuff bracelet. Remember I mentioned "over-accessorizing?" With a beautiful cuff bracelet you can still make a statement without looking like you are trying too hard. You may see younger woman wearing a stack of cuffs that go half-way up their forearms. This is not for us. Limit your cuffs to two, and possibly three if they aren't too wide. Cuffs are great - you never have to worry about fat wrists, right? I don't think there's anyone out there that shouldn't wear cuffs!

Here are some beautiful ones that I'm coveting right now. Yes, some are way out of my price range, but I love the challenge of finding similar styles at a wallet happy price.
