Welcome! I'm a 48 (and 1/2) year old, wife, mother (8 1/2 year old son), daughter, sister, friend and volunteer. So, 48.5 really means I'm into my 49th year on this amazing planet, and on July 19, 2010, I'll be in my 50th year. The mid-century mark. L. The big 5-0. However you want to say it, to most of the English speaking world, it means "old". I want to get there with grace, passion, beauty, love and laughter. I want to get there the old-fashioned way: by taking care of myself, eating right, creating a balanced life, laughing and living life to it's fullest. I'll be documenting my journey and hope you will watch and learn along the way. I'll also provide some of my tips for looking young and feeling your best as we head to and beyond our mid-century mark. Here's to being "Beautifully 50".

Dream Cream

One of my best friends is Executive Director for MAC Cosmetics in L.A. She called me today and told me I must get to a store and purchase two of MAC's newly launched cream blushers. A brighter pink and a brighter peach for me, although there are other shades as well.  I couldn't get to a mall today, but I will make time tomorrow for sure. I love cream blush. I've been using it for well over two years now, and I strongly suggest anyone nearing the big 5-0 start using it as well.

As we age, our complexions fade, becoming paler and lifeless. Some people try to fight this with fake tans and lots of bronzer, but at this juncture it's time to embrace some paleness and add brightness to your skin with blush. Cream blush is easy to apply (I recommend a foundation brush - looks similar to a painter's brush and most all cosmetic lines have one), delivers hydration so that color doesn't settle into dry patches and wrinkles, and gives a dewy, more luminous look. You should always apply a thin veil of foundation (not powder) to you skin where you need it most, (nose, cheeks, forehead and chin are most women's trouble spots) to even out skin tone, prior to adding your blusher.  Cream blush will smoothly glide over cream/liquid foundation...just remember cream to cream and powder to powder when applying product.

Smile! A must-do prior to adding your blusher. Apply to the apple of your cheeks and sweep upwards to your temple. A foundation brush will help to ensure that you do not apply too much.  For a night out, I'll add some powder over my cream for even more staying power and a tiny bit of shimmer to the center of my cheek.

So, have your cream and wear it too!

Allure magazine has named Lancome's Color Design Blush as the best cream blush of the year. Here it is shown in Petticoat Pink.....I'm always of the opinion that you have to find what works for your skin -everyone's different and just because it's Allure's Best does not mean it's best on your skin (although I have a feeling that this one is pretty good).

Here are some favorite celebs with their cheeks on!

Cate Blanchette

Cindy Crawford

Vanessa Williams

Christy Brinkley
